FEATURED PROJECT
Location: Lake Oconee, GA
This house backs up directly to the lake and has stunning views overlooking the water. The client asked me to take several shots of the master bathroom of the house (awarded Bathroom of the Year!) located on the main level.
HOW I DID IT:
First, I got the camera fully set up on the tripod. I moved it to the right angle of the room, making sure all the lines were parallel and correctly adjusted.
Then, I connected my iPad to my camera and used it to help me fully set up the shot, making sure everything was included in the frame. My client and I stood back to see what needed to be changed in the room and carried the iPad with us to see the changes directly live on the screen.
We would move items to make sure everything was as we wanted it, such as whether or not to have the curtains more open, or if the rug needed to be angled to align with the furniture, move the chair more to the side to make sure the viewer sees all four legs clearly, or even check to make sure the soap container on the sink counter is a distraction or a positive addition. We checked to make sure everything was lined up correctly before taking the shot, tweaking items here and there, and then snapping the image.
When taking a photo, I used the HDR method to capture several exposures and then in post-production editing, I brought the shots together, creating the best-exposed image using the best area of exposure taken in each shot, giving the image that smooth “wow” vibe.
After all finishing shooting, the photos then headed off to the post-production editing stage! Here, I edited lighting, contrast, color correction, masking certain areas as needed to bring out certain colors or contrasts, and just brought out the best elements of each shot. I absolutely love the end results. Every image I take is always carefully crafted and given lots of TLC!
FINAL RESULTS
What I especially love about interior photography is how the natural lighting just softly falls over the whole space. Getting the lighting “just right” is key and also very satisfying once obtaining the effect. Some inspirational styles for my work would include Marie Graunbøl, Anders Schonnemann, Nana Hagel and Joan Porcel. I like a smooth and calming aesthetic, just drawing you into the experience of the moment.
